High protection, motorised security booths for four sites at Australia’s leading data centre provider.

Background

NEXTDC is an ASX 100-listed technology company enabling business transformation through innovative data centre outsourcing solutions, connectivity services and infrastructure management software.

As the leading independent data centre operator, their partner ecosystem comprises Australia’s largest specialised ICT community of more than 640 clouds, networks and IT service providers.

With a focus on sustainability and renewable energy, NEXTDC delivers solutions that champion the best energy efficiency ratings in the country and NABERS 5-star certification.

Challenge

A high security solution was required where privacy and security of data is a primary motivation factor for data centre operators.

The new solution needed to have increased protection over data security threats, incorporating a sophisticated reader to enable automated verification and entry for employees and visitors, whilst maintaining the highest degree of safety and defence against breaches of security.

Furthermore, one criticism of data centre operators being the energy usage required in maintaining these systems, the access control solution from Gunnebo needed to be sustainable and energy efficient to coincide with NEXTDC’s focus to champion renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Solution

NEXTDC chose one of Gunnebo’s highest security offerings, the HiSec for four locations of their data centres: P1 and P2 in Perth, S1 in Sydney and B2 in Brisbane.

The HiSec is a motorised high security booth in an elegant, transparent design offering single person detection, anti-hostage threshold, bullet resistant safety glass and high accuracy verification available via an inbuilt reader.

In this instance for increased asset, data and person protection, NEXTDC opted for a dual verification system with biometric and scanned verification on the outside of the door. The HiSec solution features two sets of doors, where the second only opens once the first door closes and verifies that a single person is present inside the security booth inner chamber.

Results

NEXTDC installed a total of 13 HiSec security booths at four locations in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. Gunnebo’s security booths increase the protection of NEXTDC’s data, people and assets located onsite, with a complete all in one dual verification system in place.
