We’ve just published the second edition of Committed to Action, insight into our progress on a pathway to achieve net zero emissions by 2045.

Since we last published Committed to Action, we’ve continued working to be a business that operates more sustainably. From improving understanding on our carbon emissions and the impact of products, through to partnerships that drive change in the industry and extend our reach; our actions, no matter how big or small, are putting us on a path to achieving our goal.

“From improving understanding on our carbon emissions and the impact of products, through to partnerships that drive change in the industry and extend our reach; our actions, no matter how big or small, are putting us on a path to achieving our goal

The second edition of Committed to Action is now available to download and shows just how far we’ve come in the journey to be net zero by 2045. Looking at how our sustainability philosophy underpins everything we do, alongside the strategic targets set in our pillars of Our Business, Our People and Our Impact, and the actions we take to achieve them, it offers valuable insight.

A pathway to a sustainable future

With a mission to make the world safer as an ethical business that empowers our people and aims for net zero by 2045, our actions are about creating a sustainable future for our business. We make decisions in the best interests of our business, the planet and its people.

In Committed to Action you’ll find just how we’re moving towards a sustainable future for our business. From ISO certification and risk management to gender equality and emission reductions in-line with SBTi near-term validated targets, you can track progress and understand our pathway to a sustainable future.

Our Business

We detail the measures being taken in governance, deal with the intricacies of risk planning, target setting and working with the supply chain. Committed to Action also shines a light on the importance of cooperation and partnerships to magnifying reach beyond our value chain, such as with Climate Group SteelZero and World Land Trust

It reveals how applying robust independent reporting and evaluation through third-party verified EPDs can lead to gains for our products and customers and how we’re partnering with University of Sussex in research that lays the foundation for long-term projects to help improve sustainability in our own operations and supply chain.

Our People

Outside of upholding the human rights and of people across the value chain and the safety of our employees, we look at how our global business respects and celebrates differences and how they set us apart and allow us to work together to achieve remarkable outcomes. Revealing sessions on unconscious bias and a management team made of 33% women, Committed to Action demonstrates that we are actively building a business culture which recognises the need for appreciating the uniqueness of every individual.

Committed to Action also looks at the training we’re employing across the business to accelerate understanding of sustainability. Regular nano learning modules, EPD bootcamps, Sustainable Development Goals masterclasses, anti-greenwash training and inspirational lunch and learns are all designed with the singular goal to embed sustainability within the culture of business.

Our Impact

In Our Impact, Committed to Action explores the many ways we’re reducing the environmental impact of operations. The Sustainable Design Framework sets a direction for future product development in-line with circular economy principles while alongside, collaboration for change and planning for decarbonisation will help us to reach our goal.

“Becoming a sustainable business involves taking action on many fronts.”
Kelsey Parsons, Global Sustainability Officer

In this latest edition, you’ll read how a project at our Lavis, Italy plant has eliminated non-recyclable OSB from packing used to transport gates to customers. Instead, gates now ship using cardboard. Such has been the success of the implementation that production sites supplying gates across America and China have adopted the same.

Our marketing team has also examined and reduced digital waste by 85% with Halo by Design, donated 46 unwanted IT items to save 3,000kg of carbon emissions and recycled 410kg of end-of-life batteries in a scheme pioneered by our Service Department Sustainability Champion.

Committed to Action also reveals our efforts and progress to reduce emissions across all scopes and our transition to a sustainable fleet, including EV service vehicles. We also look at how our partnership with World Land Trust is helping to preserve critical biodiverse habitats. To date, we’ve helped fund projects and have protected over 29 acres

Looking forward

Since we published our last edition of Committed to Action, in May of 2024, we’ve certainly discovered much about our journey towards net zero and have made positive steps to improving our current position. There is still much work to do, and we are by no means perfect.

Improvements need to be made to reduce emissions, and we also know that we need to work with suppliers to ensure high standards on ethical practice and workforce rights so that we continue to have a positive impact on communities.

Our progress has been considerable and demonstrates that little actions and leading to big changes throughout our business and making a better for the planet and the people that live on it.
