We are taking positive action at a pivotal time for the planet as a partner of World Land Trust.
It’s more important than ever to protect what remains of our precious natural world, so we have joined World Land Trust (WLT) to support front-line conservation. As a Corporate Partner, we’re working together to fight climate change and raise awareness of the urgency needed to preserve threatened wildlife and habitats.
WLT is an international conservation charity that protects some of the most biologically significant and threatened habitats on earth. The charity works with a network of partner organisations around the world, funding conservation that benefits wildlife and local communities, while also combatting climate change.
Through WLT’s landmark Buy an Acre programme, we’re funding land purchase in areas specifically chosen for their biodiversity. The programme sees experienced and trusted partners safeguarding ecologically important land at threat of deforestation, urbanisation and agriculture. Much of this land serves as the last remaining haven for countless rare and spectacular species. Acre by acre, Gunnebo Entrance Control is working with WLT to preserve and protect habitats in perpetuity.
Currently, the Buy an Acre programme is actioning conservation in three important sites: Kenya’s Dakatcha Woodland, South Africa’s Renosterveld and Argentina’s Somuncurá Plateau. All three areas are at risk from human activities and home to rare and endangered species at risk of extinction.
Dakatcha is the only known home to the Clarke’s Weavers Bird and is at risk from land grab for commercial crop cultivation. Renosterveld is described by UNESCO as one of the most special places for plants in the world and is home to the richest concentration of bulb species on Earth. Drawn to the land’s fertility, it is at risk from farming and cattle operations. Argentina’s Somuncurá Plateau is home to Pumas, Culpelo Foxes and endemic species including the El Rincon Stream Frog. It is under threat from unmanaged livestock and invasive species.
As a Corporate Partner of WLT, we’re saving at least 50 acres of land in these projects every year and hope to be able to protect much more with an acre donation made for every completed project over €500,000. Through our donations to the Buy an Acre programme that go directly to land purchase, we’re helping to protect these precious habitats in perpetuity.
Patron Sir David Attenborough says, ‘the money that is given to World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of’.
