Gunnebo Entrance Control Secures University Campuses in Atlanta, GA

Background

A prominent university in Atlanta, Georgia, sought to modernize campus facilities while addressing operational and budgetary challenges. Following a recommendation from The Georgia Institute of Technology, the institution turned to Gunnebo Entrance Control to implement a cost-effective, secure, and automated access solution across key campus buildings including three libraries and two dining halls.

Challenge

The university previously relied on manually staffed entrances, which had become financially unsustainable. Unauthorized access was a growing concern, particularly in dining halls where students without valid meal plans could enter freely. The campus also faced resource theft issues in libraries, and required a system that could reduce labor costs while enhancing security and accessibility.

Solution

Gunnebo Entrance Control installed OptiStile 720 turnstiles with full-height glass panels at each location—three lanes per building—integrated with the university’s Blackboard student system. This enabled unmanned entry control, allowing only authorized students to access facilities. Dining halls now restrict entry to students with meal plans, and libraries use the turnstiles as part of an anti-theft system that locks gates if unscanned books are detected. The entire solution meets ADA accessibility standards, providing a secure and inclusive experience for all users.

The system delivers streamlined, automated access while complementing the campus aesthetic with a clean, modern design. Photography of the installation is forthcoming.
